3. Current Energy Situation in Cameroon 3.1. Government Strategies for Energy Production Cameroon’s energy potential primarily comprises hydroelectricity (64%), ther-mal energy (30%), and other renewable energies (about 6%).
Overall, a total of 21 sites have been deemed acceptable and the 11 most relevant sites based on the available head (especially those with a head of more than 200 m) are mapped in Fig. 12. The overall pumped-storage potential of Cameroon could therefore be estimated at 34 GWh and depicted as in Fig. 13. Fig. 12.

The Cameroonian government states that Cameroon needs almost 2000 billion euros to finance its energy projects. These funds will support the construction of the Limbé gas power plant (350 MW), the Grand Eweng, Chol-let, Kikot, Katsina Ala (285 MW), and Menchum (72 MW) hydroelectric dams, among others.
